Wanting is - What?
'Wanting is - What?' Summary
The poem "Wanting is - What?" by Robert Browning is a meditation on the power of love. The poem begins with the speaker asking the question, "Wanting is - what?" He then goes on to describe the world as it is without love: "Summer redundant, Blueness abundant," but "Beamy the world, yet a blank all the same." The speaker then declares that love is the only thing that can make the world complete: "Come then, complete incompletion, O comer, Pant through the blueness, perfect the summer!"
The poem then goes on to explore the different ways that love can complete us. Love can make us feel whole and fulfilled, even when we are lacking in other areas of our lives. Love can give us hope and strength, even when we are facing challenges. Love can make us feel alive and passionate, even when we are feeling numb or indifferent.
The poem ends with the speaker declaring that love is the only thing that matters: "Breathe but one breath. Rose-beauty above, And all that was death. Grows life, grows love, Grows love!"
The poem "Wanting is - What?" is a beautiful and moving celebration of the power of love. It is a reminder that love is the most important thing in the world, and that it can make our lives complete and fulfilling.
