Dark Year of Dundee
'Dark Year of Dundee' Summary
In the tumultuous year of 1544, as Scotland grappled with religious turmoil and political strife, one man emerged as a beacon of hope and inspiration: George Wishart. A devout and charismatic preacher, Wishart fearlessly proclaimed the Protestant faith, challenging the authority of the Catholic Church and igniting a flame of reform in the hearts of the people. As Wishart's message spread like wildfire through the kingdom, he faced relentless persecution from those who sought to silence his voice. Undeterred, he continued to preach, his words resonating with the oppressed and kindling a desire for change. However, Wishart's unwavering faith would ultimately lead him to a tragic end. In a treacherous betrayal, he was captured by the forces of Cardinal Beaton, a staunch defender of Catholicism. After enduring imprisonment and a mock trial, Wishart was condemned to be burned at the stake. On a bleak March day in 1546, Wishart was led to the pyre in the town of St. Andrews. As the flames consumed his body, his last words echoed through the crowd: "I believe in Jesus Christ, my Savior." Wishart's martyrdom became a turning point in the Scottish Reformation, galvanizing the Protestant movement and paving the way for the eventual triumph of Protestantism in Scotland.Book Details
