En 'Napoleón en Chamartín', Galdós profundiza en la saga de Gabriel de Araceli, un joven gaditano que ya ha sido protagonista de las anteriores entregas de los *Episodios Nacionales*. Gabriel llega a Madrid buscando a su amada Inés, quien está comprometida con un hombre indolente e influenciado por un supuesto espía francés.
