Zadig ou la destinée is a philosophical novel by Voltaire published in 1747. It tells the story of a young man named Zadig who, despite his intelligence and good intentions, faces a series of misfortunes. Zadig is a wealthy and virtuous young man who lives in ancient Babylon. He is in love with Astarté, the beautiful queen of Babylon, but their love is forbidden. Zadig is forced to flee Babylon and embark on a long journey, during which he encounters a variety of people and experiences. He learns about the human condition and the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity.
