Ball and the Cross
'Ball and the Cross' Summary
The Ball and the Cross is a humorous and thought-provoking novel that explores the clash between faith and reason, tradition and modernity. It tells the story of two men, Evan MacIan, a devout Catholic, and James Turnbull, a staunch atheist, whose paths collide in a bizarre and ultimately life-changing encounter. MacIan, outraged by a blasphemous display in Turnbull's shop window, challenges him to a duel to the death, which Turnbull accepts eagerly. Their journey to find a suitable location for the duel becomes a series of comic adventures, as they encounter an eccentric cast of characters and grapple with the complexities of their own beliefs and the absurdity of the world around them. As they wander, they find their friendship growing even as they remain bound by the rules of their duel. The novel explores themes of faith, reason, love, friendship, and the nature of reality itself, through a lens of playful satire and witty dialogue.Book Details
